Voice on Chatiw App
Chatiw App is a text room first, but you can use your voice in four ways: voice messages, voice calls, going live in the main room, and the voice check. All of them work in the browser. Nothing to download.
The first time you use one, your browser asks if the site may use your microphone. You can say no and keep chatting by text.
Voice messages
Press the microphone in the message box, talk, and send. Voice messages work in the public room and in private chats. They play right in the chat.
You can also record a short camera clip the same way, if you want people to see you as well as hear you.
Voice calls
In a private chat, start a voice call. The other person hears a ring and can accept or decline. During the call, either of you can mute or hang up.
Group chats can have a voice call too. Everyone in the group gets the ring and can join.
Go live in the main room
Go live sends your voice, or your camera, to everyone in the public room. Choose voice only or camera before you start.
Only one person can be live at a time. People can stop watching whenever they want. When you end live, it stops for everyone.
Voice check
The voice check is optional. You press start and read a short random phrase out loud. The site checks that the phrase was spoken live, and your name gets a badge.
It exists because the most common lie on anonymous chat is a man using the female tag. A live voice reading a random phrase is hard to fake with a recording. The voice check is meant for people who use the female tag. Other checks may come later.
The recording is short-lived. It is used for the check and for review, and it is not kept as part of your profile.
In a private chat you can ask the other person for a voice check, once. They decide whether to do it.
Your microphone, your choice
The site uses your microphone only when you record, start or join a call, go live, or take the voice check. You can turn microphone access off at any time in your browser settings.
Questions
Do I need an account for voice calls?
No. Voice calls work in private chats and group chats, and private chats do not need an account.
Is the voice check required?
No. It is optional. It gives you a badge that shows you read a random phrase out loud, live.
Can I do group voice calls?
Yes. Start a call from a group chat and everyone in the group gets a ring.
Does voice chat work on iPhone?
Yes. It works in Safari and other modern browsers once you allow microphone access.
